Telecel Group and Ministry of Communication Sign Memorandum of Understanding for One Million Coders Programme

In order to promote the current government’s flagship One Million Coders Programme, a statewide digital skills project to help the youth started earlier this year by President John Mahama. The main guests were Telecel Group, the Ministry of Communication being headed by the honorable SAM George. Telecel group/Digital Technology and Innovations have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Training 100,000 Young Ghanaians Over the Next Four Years

With the goal of training 100,000 young Ghanaians over the next four years, the deal solidifies Telecel’s commitment to offering free access to its Startocode learning platform. It is anticipated that the program will expedite Ghana’s digital transition.

Advancing a Digitally Connected Africa

Moh Damush, the CEO of Telecel Group, stated during the signing ceremony that the collaboration is in line with Telecel’s goal of advancing a digitally connected Africa.We will be able to provide tens of thousands of young people with the digital and coding skills they need for Ghana’s expanding digital economy by aligning with the One Million Coders program. More significantly, he stated, it gives the nation the ability to steer the destiny of the digital ecosystem that is already changing Africa.

Startocode Digital Learning Platform

Startocode is a self-paced, multilingual digital learning platform created by Telecel Group that provides interactive classes and practical projects to develop skills that are applicable to the workplace. By offering easily accessible coding and digital literacy instruction, the platform has already trained thousands of students throughout Africa, especially in underprivileged areas.

Sam George, the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, praised the collaboration and called it an important step in closing Ghana’s digital skills gap.Unlocking digital potential and establishing career opportunities for our youngsters are the goals of the One Million Coders Program. He added, “We are honoured to work with progressive partners like Telecel who share our objective of inclusive digital empowerment. The One Million Coders Program’s trainees will have access to Startocode courses on web development, Python programming, data analytics, and digital entrepreneurship as part of the Memorandum of Understanding.

In order to improve long-term professional advancement, the partnership will also make mentorship, peer assistance, and skill development groups possible.
