Introduction:

Last semester we had a news report which I noticed several Ghanaians making complains that their phones start to run slow within the year’s journey. Apps start lagging and menus also freezes. We mostly assumed it was the network, but after practicing basic cleanup and tweaks, performance improved dramatically. Diagnosing Android slowness can be stressful and annoying, but it is often a result of software issues. Thankfully, there are free steps I can take you through to make your phone run faster again, especially in our Ghanaian network and hardware environment.

Android Phones: Why Do They Slow Down?

In Ghana, I’ve seen people complain about phones with much storage but they still lags because the battery had degraded. The hardware became the even though the apps were light. One student’s phone slowed drastically after a battery health drop, the internal storage chip got micro-damaged, which made it struggle to read/write data.

Additionally, most Ghanaians don’t really know that Android’s performance is limited by a malfunctioning battery or other hardware.
Every installed app on your smartphone and the device itself is always looking for resources. Android lags, apps take longer to launch, and nothing feels as seamless as it once did when there isn’t enough to go around.

12 Ways to Make an Android Faster.

A slow phone is one of the most annoying things in the world, so don’t be deterred by this lengthy list or go looking for a new phone just yet. Particularly for extremely slow phones, the first few suggestions ought to be sufficient to produce considerable performance gains. However, we advise going through each of these procedures; simply restart your smartphone a few times as you do so.

NOTE:First, check the speed of your internet! A sluggish phone might easily be mistaken for a slow internet connection. You may have a slow network, yet your phone or tablet may be operating normally. What’s Causing My Slow Internet? This article covers the possible causes of a slow internet connection.read our tips on how to Improve Your Wi-Fi Signal

1. Close any apps you are not using at the moment. In my own phone, I intentionally check running apps after work when walking back home to safe time and force stop the apps that pulls pressure on the phone the most like social media or video editors and also gives more memory to active tasks.

2.Clear out the garbage folders. On the most where been used by friends testifies that cleaning trash and cache folders frees up 1–2 GB and boosts responsiveness during working hours or note-taking apps during lectures. Although there are specific garbage cleanup apps for Android, you can also complete this with the file manager that comes pre-installed on your smartphone, like Google’s Files app.

TIPS:Since most trash folders only retain deleted files for 30 days before automatically deleting them, this isn’t strictly necessary. On the other hand, you may have a lot of unneeded data taking up space if you frequently remove files.

3.Get rid of apps you don’t use and extraneous widgets. Having too many apps open at once increases the demand for RAM, which a user can uninstall unnecessary apps to release and make your phone faster.

Many students Ghana install dozens of apps on their smartphones and they will be thinking it might be needed. I looked through a friend’s smartphone with over 130 apps but only uses 10 of them the most. I informed him to uninstall unused apps and it made a noticeable difference.you can also follow the following procedure to get yours done. Go to Settings > Apps > Unused apps or think about removing the programs that take up your battery the most if you’re having trouble deciding what to give up.

There are differences when it comes to how widget removal functions between phones, one method is to tap and hold the widget while dragging it into the Remove section. For apps, follow the same steps, but select Uninstall.

TIPS:A recently installed app or widget is probably the cause of Android’s recent latency. Examine the items you recently added to your device and remove them completely, being sure to check to see if this speeds up Android after each uninstallation.

4.Empty the caches of the apps. This is helpful if a certain app is causing problems with performance because it may free up some storage space that the app is taking, which may be the source of Android’s slowness.

5.Disable background app operation. On Ghanaian mobile networks like (MTN and Telecel ) and apps running in background push updates or sync data constantly. I disable background activity for heavy apps (like streaming) to reduce strain.

6.Update all your apps. Recently I held off updating my Operating system for weeks because of limited data. When I finally updated with MTN midnight bundle performance improved and some long-standing bugs cleared up, especially in apps I use for project works.

7.Update the Android OS. Similar to app updates, an outdated operating system could be why Android is so slow, and an update might be enough to address those issues.

NOTE:Depending on your device, it may not be able to run the most recent version of Android, or if it does, it may become even slower if you can’t free up enough space for it to function properly. Getting a newer phone is your only option if this is the cause of your issue.

8.Replace your apps with lite versions. I had a complain from a client about her phone speed and data consumption, I advised her to switch some apps like from Facebook app to Facebook Lite and the same for YouTube Go, that was the trick I gave her and guess what it boosted her phone’s speed and data.

9.Install a virus scanner and use it to check for and delete viruses.

Adding another app to a slow phone might seem counterproductive, but it’s necessary to see if this is the problem. I installed a light-weight scanner I trust and found a small rogue module in a shared app; removing it reduced lag significantly on my smartphone.

10.Make a still image your new wallpaper.
This only matters if you have created a video wallpaper, which is more likely to cause your phone to lag because it puts more strain on the hardware than a static one.

11.Examine how much RAM each app is taking, then remove or terminate those that don’t make sense.

To go through this steps, you must enable developer settings. After that, select Settings > System > Developer settings > Memory > App Memory. Your memory consumption over the past day is visible.
To end an existing application from that screen, tap it from the list, then select Force stop from the three-dot menu.

12.Reduce the scale of the system animation. This is how long Android is set up to display animations, such as when an app is opened. It doesn’t really matter if this speeds up your phone because it will undoubtedly make it feel faster.

If you haven’t already, enable developer options. Then, under the Drawing area, you’ll see three options: Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale. Each one should be changed to something faster, such as.5x.

13.Reset your device to factory settings. I keep a clean backup from my smartphone at the start of each three months, if my phone becomes sluggish, I can reset and restore only from known apps I trust.

This is the only method to restore your phone or tablet to its original software configuration.

NOTE:Boot Android into safe mode if you wish to postpone a complete reset. A factory reset makes sense if your phone functions flawlessly in that mode, as there is probably still a software problem at work.

Extra Tip to Keep Android Fast

  • I will also advise anyone on avoiding the use of modded APKs shared on local tech website or local WhatsApp groups. Many times they come with hidden components. Sticking to Play Store or trusted sources protects my device from unknown threats.
  • Delete huge files and videos on a regular basis.
  • To prevent lag, make sure your phone is fully charged.

Is a New Phone Needed?

Ultimately, your tablet or phone may be too old to react and work at a speed that suits you. You would be better off purchasing a new phone if you are unable to update to the most recent version of the Android operating system and you do not want to try changing parts.

FAQs

1. The simplest method to make your Android phone charge faster is to turn it off while it is charging?. The second, but more expensive, option is to purchase a more powerful AC adapter. These larger, newer adapters can send more power to your Android phone, allowing it to charge much faster than the tiny AC adapter that probably came with it.

2. How can I make my Android phone run like new? If you want your phone to feel like it did when you first got it, you can do a factory reset, which will basically make it feel like the phone you had when you took it out of the box.

Conclusion

Why is my Android phone slow in 2025?Even in Ghana where devices are often older and networks less perfect, most Android slowness problems can be fixed with simple care. If all else fails, a hardware upgrade may be required — but start with these steps. On campus and in daily life, applying these practices helped me extend my phone’s performance without buying a new one. read more on How to Speed Up Your Computer: 7 Easy and Effective Methods.
