GVA to Launch High-Speed FTTH Internet in Ghana

CanalBox is one of the best companies in terms of delivering affordable, unlimited high-speed broadband and reliable FTTH home internet services across Africa.This company is owned by a French Group called Vivendi Africa (GVA), is about introducing high-speed fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) internet services in Ghana, which this activity will begin in Accra and Kumasi.

As part of its plan to provide inexpensive, limitless internet connectivity throughout the continent, the business is entering its tenth African market.

Government Engagement and Rollout Discussions

Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s newly appointed Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, had a meeting with a delegation from GVA, including the head CEO Jean-François Dubois, in Greater Accra to talk about the commercial rollout. The meeting’s main goal was for GVA and the government to work together to increase Ghanaians households’ access to high-speed, reasonably priced internet.

Minister Samuel George’s Support and Pricing Endorsement

The minister thanked them for the project and called GVA’s suggested pricing plan “revolutionary” and guess what the pricing plan was in line with the government’s goal of increasing access to cheap digital services across the country. He also disclosed that he is totally dedicated to projects that increase fibre access throughout Ghana and reduce data costs he went on to say that he will personally support the introduction of this option if it provides the high-speed, limitless internet you have outlined at competitive prices.

Addressing Infrastructure and Operational Challenges

The Minister promised to work with the management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Minister for Energy to address infrastructure access issues that might have an impact on the project.

Request for Detailed Proposal from GVA

Additionally, he urged GVA to present a comprehensive proposal detailing its investment framework, service plan, and the particular areas that might call for ministerial action.

Again, the minister proposed that GVA and Canal+ work together to combine broadband access with high-end entertainment programming, which he claimed could completely change Ghana’s pay-TV and internet landscape. He reassured the GVA delegation that the government has measures in place and is also prepared to assist sincere investors who are dedicated to improving Ghana’s digital infrastructure and closing the connectivity gap.

Mr. Dubois reiterated GVA’s dedication to Ghana, pointing out that the company was willing to duplicate its profitable fibre business model, which is currently in use in nine African nations. when also said that they are goal is to provide Ghanaian households with inexpensive, limitless broadband connectivity and promote significant digital inclusion,” he stated.

GVA’s Presence Across Africa

Canal+ Group subsidiary GVA operates many African countries including Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Gabon, Uganda, and Benin. In Cotonou and Abomey-Calavi, it just introduced CanalBox services.

Fiber Network Capacity and Infrastructure Expansion

Over 2.7million homes and businesses in Africa are covered by the company’s more than 40,000 km of fiber-optic cable.

Impact of Canal+ Acquisition on Ghana’s Digital Ecosystem

The move into Ghana follows Canal+’s October 2025 acquisition of MultiChoice Group, a major pay-TV provider in South Africa, in which it acquired a 94.39 percent interest. Through combined internet and media packages, the acquisition is anticipated to improve GVA’s service offering by fortifying Canal+’s content distribution network throughout the continent.

GVA’s debut into Ghana is anticipated to boost competition in the nation’s internet market and forward its ambition for digital transformation, given the government’s support and the rising demand for reasonably priced residential broadband.
