Samuel Nartey George, the minister of communications, has unveiled a new technological support program that provides students of Ghana with free AI access for free 12-month access to the Gemini App, along with free artificial intelligence (AI) certification training and 2TB of storage which can help in research strategies and more.

Program Overview: Free Google AI Pro Plan for Students
Up until December 9, 2025, qualified students can take advantage of the offer, in which was made possible via a collaboration between Google and the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations. Students who are 18 years and above can take part for a free 12-month Google AI Pro Plan, which will gives them access to creative tools and advanced learning.

The package also includes NotebookLM Google’s digital thinking assistant which helps organise ideas, summarise content, and now even provides improved audio and video summaries. On top of that, students gain access to Google’s latest image creation and editing model, Nano Banana, which can transform rough ideas into striking visuals or reimagine existing photos. They’ll also be able to use Veo 3 for generating videos.
Minister George thanked Google for continuing to work with the Ministry, noting that the partnership goes beyond the One Million Coders Program and the AI Research Lab. He underlined that the partnership will keep growing in order to help more kids nationwide.Google designed these tools with one purpose in mind: helping students learn better. They’re built to support everything from tackling tough assignments and organising arguments to studying for exams and checking understanding with interactive assessments. Instead of simply delivering answers, the Guided Learning mode acts like a real study partner. It teaches students how to solve problems step-by-step, also asking helpful questions along the way to make sure they truly understand the material.
How to Join the Gemini Pro Plan
Minister George invited the public to assist in disseminating the information and urged students throughout Ghana to seize the chance. He emphasised that the program is in line with the government’s dedication to digital innovation and youth development. Through specific internet channels, students can join up for the Gemini Pro Plan.
The offer requires proper enrolment documents or a university email to verify the student’s status using SheerID. When registering, students should use their personal Gmail accounts rather than the ones provided by the school.
Subscription Terms
The subscription automatically renews after the 12-month free period unless it is cancelled before the trial period expires.Students can cancel their subscriptions anytime if they don’t want to pay any fees, and Google will even send reminder messages weeks before the offer period ends so no one gets caught off guard.
Broader Digital Initiatives
Google is working with the Ministry of Communications on several digital initiatives that will be brought to Ghana.
