As time goes on more devices connect daily, the impact of discarded SIM cards adds up, making biodegradable options to become an important solution. The announcement was made at the MTN House in Accra during the start of MTN Ghana’s 2025 Sustainability Week. According to the business, the new SIM cards are meant to assist cut waste while upholding current performance levels.

Features of the New Eco-Friendly SIM Cards.

The new cards’ purpose and material composition were described by the General Manager of Supply Chain Management and General Services. The primary distinction is that our biodegradable SIM cards are composed of forest-certified trees, which break down in an environmentally friendly manner. Even the metal parts are made to break down securely, which contributes to less electronic waste.

We announced our switch to electric vehicles and unveiled our first motorcycle and e-vehicle last year as part of Project Zero. In only a single year, MTN has purchased two electric cars, 10 e-bikes, and set up a charging station at our headquarters, demonstrating how environmentally conscious our fleet is becoming.
